My Wife is an amateur Photograph buff and wanted a method to display here pictures unobtrusivily. At Christmas she recieved two- an 8' and the 15' as gifts. The contrask is startling. The 15" commands attention and shows her photos with inmeasureable detail in comparision to the 8".
This would also be an invaluible marketing tool for any buiness promoting products in any waiting room where customers are bored.
The display works as the other reviewers have stated and if it were to have a downside it would be that it's hard to know which photo is going to be displayed. But in reality that also is it's strenghth in capuring your attenton.
Just what we wanted

I baught this frame for my wife for Christmas and we love it. It is doing just what we wanted it to do, showing beautiful pictures. We do not use the frames memory but use a 2 GB SD card and just keep adding pictures to the card as time goes by. I've read some of the other reviews but, so far, we have had none of those problems. The pictures are clear and crisp. I did have to make some adjustments to get the quality pictures we wanted but that was expected. The frame is located on our entertainment center in our large family room and you can see the pictures from anywhere in the room. It has been a real joy for us!

This is an excellent product. The Smartparts SP15MW 15-inch digital frame works great and the screen display is awesome. Some people have complained because they do not understand how to load pictures. The screen resolution is 1024 X 768 pixels... for optimal performance your image should be size as close to 1024 X 768 as possible. Just because you have a 8 megapixel image does not mean you are going to get any better resolution - in fact loading large images will not provide you with clearer screen display - what it will do is simply slow....... down the screen show. ~~~ HUGE M E G A pixel images have far more resolution in a single image than the Smartparts SP15MW is capable of displaying or for that matter 8 mega pixels has far more resolution then the average computer screen. The bottom line - if you have images from a BIG megapixel camera you will need to down-size the images. This could be a pain-in-the-butt if you don't know what you are doing . . . but huge amounts of mega pixels will not display... the reason we all love big mega pixel cameras is so we can PRINT large images with great resolution... screens are not like that... in this case all you need is 1024 X 768 pixels and your images will look awesome and the digital frame will NOT run slow or simply stop running. GREAT PRODUCT!

I bought this frame to use as a large display of childhood family photos at my wedding. I was able to create themed slides on my computer and easily transfer them with the usb cord onto the frame. All I had to do was turn on the frame and it instantly displayed my photos in the order I had uploaded them. I have not had any issues with this frame. The size and quality are great, and the frame is easy to use.

Smartparts SP15MW 15-Inch Digital Picture Frame with Walnut Frame

I bought this yesterday at Staples. It was on clearance for $175 and they only had the floor model left in stock, but there's no scratches and the box and accessories were all in good condition.

I will be gifting this to my mom, but played with it when I got home in case it had bugs. Reading through the bad reviews on Amazon, I am now expecting my unit to die any minute. It turns out the hundreds of reviews here is not just specifically for this particular model, but for all Smartparts frames. Still, I know the various model reviews may be relevant to any purchase of this brand.

Surprise, surprise. The walnut frame seems to be actual wood. Most of these are plastic or resin made to look like wood, but I guess for this price point it's just right that it's real wood.

I find that the picture quality isn't as good as my 19" widescreen Acer LCD computer monitor, in terms of resolution and color. I say this because for $175 (I bought my monitor for $150), you would think the picture quality would be similar. I have not tried optimizing photos with the built-in software yet, so that might help. There IS an option to adjust tint, brightness, contrast, and color. I'll play with that a little more.

Since the photos in my SD card were taken with different digital cameras (different MP, different formats, some scanned from actual photos, different ratios), the frame automatically crops them on the display, thereby altering the composition of the photo and others times chopping off people altogether. I do not mind this per se, but it's one of those things to consider when buying this, that its use is not 100% effort- and hassle-free. It will be worth it to crop and convert photos to a uniform size and ratio before loading your mem cards in here.

One con about the mem card slots: I have an SD card and there's no eject button, so I had to use a pair of jewelry pliers to take it out. Not major, but certainly good to know.

I like that you can adjust the slideshow transition, like doorway, fade, and random. You can also opt to display the clock and there is even an alarm you can set. However, the manual says you can set a calendar to display, but I could not find that under Settings or Menu.

An added bonus is the slim remote control that comes with a 3V button battery. I did not expect this, but it makes sense for this size frame that other people might want to mount on the wall instead of propping up on a desk. I find that the manual is not very detailed, but after a while I managed to maneuver through the options with it.

You do need to take out a screw in order to open the compartment behind the frame where the AC adapter plugs in. At the store, they had the heavy bulky part of the adapter hanging out, but when I got home I was happy to discover from the instruction fliers in the box that that bulky part can actually reside in that compartment, thus preventing any drag on the frame by containing such a heavy, hanging part, and also providing more heft to the bottom part of the frame.

I already packed the frame in the box after trying it out yesterday, but I think I will take it out and have it stay on for a few days before shipping it to my mom. I will also explore more of the features and find that calendar feature. If this Smartparts frame will indeed conk out in a snap like most people say, I want it to be while it is still with me and I can return it, not while it is with my mom thousands of miles away!

Staples does offer extended warranty options ($39.99 for 2 years, $49.99 for 3 years for this product), but really, who goes out of their way to spend more on a product? But Staples says their warranties extend to overseas, there is a 1-800 number to call. Of course, anybody can promise you the earth and the sky just before you hand over your credit card; half the time it's a different story when you actually need service. I have a couple of weeks to make a decision, though.

Personally I'd rather use this exclusively with mem cards rather than using the USB cord to download photos from the PC. I think my mom (the final user of this frame) will, too. So that's one hassle I and she will not have to deal with.
works perfect!

I have been using this for about a month now. No problems at all. I read some previous reviews saying the pictures would freeze, this has not been a problem for me. The device is meant to display pictures which are 1024x768 so i am guessing people having problems are uploading directly from cameras which typically are 2592 x 1944 or higher. The picture quality will be just as sharp no matter what the resolution is as long as it is a good picture in the first place...the higher resolution is just a bigger picture which cannot fit onto the screen and therefore needs to be reduced to 1024x768 in order to fit perfectly on this device.

In short, works great, no problems, easy to use and set up, great value.
Smartparts 15" on the Go for Trade Shows

Eden Valley Guest Ranch purchased a Smartparts 15" digital frame over a year ago. I had never heard of the company, did considerable research and used many reviews. We are rural and reliability is more important to me than ease of use. This product was a good fit for us as our usual show is about 250 pictures, which repeat continuously. I change the show for each event adding and deleting pictures in a special file on computer. Files names have numeric codes in front part of filename to ensure my photo order. Then I delete the old show off the frame and load the new one in through the Optimizer program it came with via USB. Manual is cryptic. I send frame in a special carry case we developed with one of our representatives and all they do at an event is set it up and turn it on. The frame ran most days last summer and has gone to many events. It looks professional and we get many great comments about it. This frame has worked well.

I've been wanting a digital picture frame for a couple of years now but I did not want a small one and I did not want to spend an arm and a leg. This one was the perfect size, easy to operate and the price was certainly right.
Great Frame

Reviewer: Champ,
I wasn't sure about this brand or frame before purchasing this frame, but it is the best frame that we have ever purchased. We purchased a Kodak and Sony frame at the same time and this one has outlived both of them, and we never turn it off. Other frames will become extremely hot after lengthy use, but we have never had that issue with this frame even though we leave it on 24/7. It might be a rather simple frame when it comes to function but, because of the reliability we have purchased two more for friends and relatives!

I bought this for my wife for christmas 08. it is now three weeks later and she truely loves it. she wanted a 10 inch digital picture frame to replace her 7 incher, then changed her mind a couple weeks later and said she would like a 12 incher. so i started researching, and read all the reviews. i have to say the picture and quality of the product is well worth the extra time i spent reviewing all those other digital picture frames. this one is great and she never expected a 15 incher for christmas.
Awesome Photo Frame !!

This digital photo frame is perfect for my father-in-law's 70th Birthday. I've put tons of memories and music on it. I'm still adding more and can't wait to give it to him next month. I know he will LOVE it! It is so easy to use. My 11 year old daughter is the one that put most of the pictures on it. The picture quality and sound is perfect! I would highly recommend this digital picture frame!

My Fiancé bought this for me a couple months ago and I love it BUT as everyone else seems to have already stated it does freeze on some photos but after reading these reviews I now know why! :) the only other problem I have with it is when we turn it off with the remote it won't stay off a few minutes or even an hour later it will turn on again by itself. The only way to stop this is actually turning the the ON/OFF button that is located on the bottom of the frame on off. I use a USB thumb drive for my pictures and its rather small but since the card and USB readers (along with the ON/OFF switch) is located on the bottom of the frame it doesn't fit under there so the frame is lop-sided unless we hang it up or prop something else up under the other corner.
